Robotic cartoning — form, load, and close in one footprint

Formed, loaded, closed.
Cartoning with extreme accuracy.

Form. Load. Close. In a single integrated monoblock — or as precision robotic carton loading paired with your existing equipment. The Peregrine cartoning platform consolidates entire cartoning operations into one of the smallest footprints in the category, with patent-pending PBT Positive Board Transport, JLS TRAK, and PCT Positive Carton Transport. One control architecture. Built, programmed, and supported in-house. Engineered for operational certainty — predictable commissioning and repeatable performance.

Robot & machine architecture

JLS robotic cartoning systems load, form, and close cartons at line speed using vision-guided delta robots and JLS-engineered tooling technology. The Peregrine performs robotic carton loading; the Peregrine IS integrates forming, loading, and closing in a single monoblock — one of the smallest cartoning footprints in the category. The Hawk handles standard cartons, trays, and bars in a compact top-loading configuration — and pairs with JLS case packing downstream to complete the line. All systems are designed for food manufacturers in USDA- and FDA-regulated facilities, engineered and supported entirely in-house.

Why JLS for cartoning

Cartoning re-engineered around space, speed, and integration.

Traditional cartoning splits forming, loading, and closing across separate machines, separate controls, and separate vendors. JLS rebuilt the cartoner around a single integrated monoblock — designed to fit where ordinary lines can't.

Need more than just cartoning?

Cartoning is one step in the chain. JLS integrates the Peregrine seamlessly upstream and downstream — including full-line builds with our partner Reiser.

JLS + Reiser integrated systems

From primary loading to final output — one line, one contact.

For complete line builds, JLS pairs with Reiser (a leading food processing and packaging equipment company) to deliver integrated solutions: primary product handling, case packing, cartoning, and case erecting — engineered to work as one system, supported by one team.

Proof before commitment

Test your product in a JLS cartoner
before you commit.

Send your real product and your carton spec to York, PA. Watch a Peregrine or Peregrine IS run it in our Flight Lab. See the throughput, see the changeover, see the load (and, on Peregrine IS, the integrated form-load-close cycle) — on your actual SKUs — before the PO is signed.

Robotic cartoning FAQs

Common questions on cost, products handled, sanitation, integration, and testing — answered by JLS application engineers.

Cost depends on the platform (Peregrine vs. Peregrine IS vs. Hawk), robot and head count, carton format, and integration scope — it's confirmed during the proposal process after JLS reviews your product, carton format, and line speed. Most projects also evaluate payback in the 24–36 month range, depending on labor cost, shift schedule, line speed, and uptime improvement, with added value from improved throughput and more consistent cartoning.

Robotic cartoning uses vision-guided robots to load product into cartons — and, in integrated configurations, to form, load, and close them — at line speed with consistent placement. JLS's Peregrine performs robotic carton loading in a compact footprint at the end of the primary packaging line.

JLS cartoning handles paperboard cartons, caddies, and a range of primary packages including pouches, flow-wrapped product, trays, and rigid packs. Tooling is configured to your product, carton size, and pack pattern.

The Peregrine IS is engineered as one of the smallest-footprint robotic cartoners available — designed to fit tight end-of-line spaces where a traditional cartoner won't. Exact footprint depends on configuration and integration.

Throughput depends on the product, carton format, robot configuration, and tooling. JLS sizes the system around your actual product, SKU mix, line speed, and packaging equipment so it is built for the production requirement rather than a generic rate claim.

Many JLS systems use recipe-driven changeover through the HMI, with tooling and format changes designed to be as simple and repeatable as possible. JLS reviews your SKU mix, carton sizes, and changeover goals so the system is designed around how the plant runs.

JLS cartoning systems can be specified with washdown-capable, cleanable construction matched to the product-contact area and plant environment, including IP69K-capable* equipment and NEMA 4X controls where required.

It depends on line speed and shift schedule, but a robotic cartoner typically takes over repetitive manual carton-loading positions and runs them across every shift, while improving consistency and ergonomics.

Yes. JLS integrates cartoning with flow wrappers, conveyors, checkweighers, metal detectors, labeling systems, and your existing upstream and downstream equipment into one coordinated line.

Yes. Before any capital commitment, JLS runs your actual product in the Flight Lab with tooling configured for it and validates the cartoning application on your real product before final design.

Often, yes. The compact footprint of the Peregrine makes it well suited to retrofits. The final design depends on available floor space, line speed, controls, sanitation access, and your existing equipment.
