Guiding Principles

Eight principles. One clear standard. Do what we promise.

These aren’t marketing taglines. They’re what Craig Souser, JLS’s CEO, actually says when describing how JLS operates — from the LAB through service.

A different kind of automation company.

Anyone can bolt a robot onto a line. What’s hard to copy is how we show up — how we own the hard problems, prove ideas before we promise them, and refuse to quit until you’ve won. These are the eight pillars behind every JLS system.

01

Run into trouble

JLS people run toward problems, not away from them. Other companies dodge blame. JLS owns the issue and fixes it. “I made it. Work to fix it. Learn. Move on.”

02

The magic

Visitors feel something walking through JLS. People smile. They help each other. Customers comment on it before anyone explains it.

03

Customers’ names and jobs are on the line

JLS treats every project as mission-critical — because our customers’ production and reputations ride on it.

04

Private-company accountability

As a family-led, privately held company, JLS answers to its customers and its name — not outside shareholders. We stand behind our commitments and see every project through.

05

The Flight Lab — where automation is proven before it’s promised

JLS engineers solve, engineer, and test before we say yes. Problems get solved in our lab — not on your production line.

06

Service lifecycle — day one to 15+ years

JLS doesn’t sell machines. JLS sells working solutions. Some are still running 15+ years after install.

07

We don’t quit until the customer is thrilled

Before, during, and after installation. “Live by our commitments.” Even protect customers from themselves — helping them understand what can be done, what shouldn’t, and how.

08

Game = robots, business = winning, we call the plays

JLS is the play-caller. The customer is the team. The customer’s products are the playbook. “Only when our customers win do we win.”

We test what others assume. We show up when it counts. We don’t quit until you’ve won.

Organizations JLS supports.

Making the world a better place is more than a mantra — JLS invests in education, manufacturing, and community organizations across York, Pennsylvania and beyond. We also give every employee paid time off to volunteer, so supporting the causes they care about doesn’t have to come out of their own time.

Our commitment to inclusion.

At JLS, we don’t just believe in diversity — we invest in it, we protect it, and we celebrate it.

We know innovation doesn’t happen in sameness, progress doesn’t grow in fear, and excellence doesn’t come from exclusion. We use diversity to drive innovation — and we believe in equity for all: for our LGBTQ+ family, for Black and Brown communities, for women in leadership, for people with disabilities, for those of every faith and background, for immigrants, and for anyone who has ever been made to feel “othered” in a space that should have welcomed them.

We choose inclusion even when it’s uncomfortable, and equity even when it’s challenged. You belong. You matter. And your presence, your identity, and your voice are your power — we’re honored to walk beside you.

Ready for the realities of your line?

Bring us your product. We’ll test it in our lab, engineer the automation, and prove it — before we say yes. Typical payback: 24–36 months.
