About JLS

70+ years of automation.
Focused on results.

JLS Automation was founded in 1955 and has engineered automation for more than seven decades — today focused exclusively on robotic packaging systems for food manufacturers. We do not adapt warehouse robots for food. We engineer food robots from the ground up, with multiple patents, all in food packaging automation.

JLS Automation is a family-led robotics company, founded in 1955, that today engineers hygienic packaging systems exclusively for food manufacturers. JLS designs, builds, programs, and supports its pick-and-place, case packing, cartoning, and integrated-line automation entirely in-house, holding multiple patents — all in food packaging automation.

Automation doesn't fail all at once. It fails in the small gaps. We close them before they reach your floor.

At JLS, we don't assume automation will work — we prove it. Real production is complex, and the difference isn't avoiding that complexity. It's working through it before it ever reaches your floor. In our lab, with your product, we test, refine, and close the gaps that cause systems to fail in the real world.

Why JLS

What makes JLS different.

Engineered for food, proven on your product, and built and supported under one roof.

01

In-house hygienic engineering

JLS systems are engineered from the ground up for USDA / FSIS facilities — not adapted dry-environment robots. IP69K-capable where the application demands. Sanitary stainless construction — open-channel or round-tube frames, engineered per platform to shed water — minimizes bacterial harborage and stands up to caustic, chlorinated alkaline, and acid sanitizers.

02

Solving difficult product-handling challenges

VOB 2.0 vacuum-on-board tooling — JLS-engineered — uses 50%+ less compressed air than conventional vacuum systems, and sanitation is a tool swap, not a cleaning event. It handles wet proteins and soft cheeses that are genuinely difficult to automate.

03

Eliminating third-party handoffs

Controls, vision, robotics, and HMI are all programmed in-house in York, PA on the B&R Automation platform — so primary handling, case packing, and cartoning come from one automation partner — one controls platform, one support call.

04

Prove it on your product first

Before any capital commitment, send us your product — wet, sticky, fragile, or irregular. In the JLS Flight Lab in York, PA, we run it on real JLS robotics with tooling configured for it, so the system is engineered around how your line really runs — not a generic spec.

Family-led since 1955

The people behind the automation.

JLS was founded in 1955 by Joseph L. Souser and has stayed family-led ever since — today under his son, CEO Craig Souser. Seventy years on, the same commitment to precision, reliability, and doing right by customers still runs the company.

Joe GarnerVP of Operations

"This company has transformed several times since 1955 — we've been doing robotic automation projects since 2002."

Mike NewcomeVP of Sales

"It was a power-transmission company in the '50s, and now it's a world-leading robotics company in the food industry."

Waheed ChaudhryDirector of Primary Packaging & Integrated Systems

"We can make changes to the system on the fly while it's still in production."

Phil SzymanowskiLead Systems Engineer

"I wouldn't have stayed if it weren't for the people. JLS goes out of their way to hire the kind of people you actually want to work with."

Craig HafnerCTO

"It's just like family here. When my wife battled cancer, I couldn't have asked for more support."
