Achieve Perfect Carton Handling with the Peregrine®

The robotic Peregrine cartoning system from JLS^® achieves complete control with top-load carton loading and closing—and more. Unlike traditional top-load cartoners, the Peregrine features a combination of proprietary technologies that achieve full carton control from forming through closing.

The JLS TRAK^™ is the Peregrine’s high-speed carton management system and is what helps eliminate the need for conveyors to move cartons away from the former. Essentially, the need for a long conveyor from the carton former to the loader is no longer required. Instead, the JLS TRAK works with the Peregrine’s positive carton transport (PCT^™) to efficiently manage the loading process, keeping cartons in-line, without turns, the entire time.

The Peregrine features a servo carton removal (SCR) system. The two-axis, servo-controlled system positively grips the carton and moves it vertically down into position on the track.

Once cartons are formed, the JLS TRAK moves them at very high speeds and with extremely accurate positioning for loading. Here, products simply feed into the system in any orientation and the vision-guided robot adjusts for the placement, picks it up and places it in the carton. Traditional collate and load systems will jam and stop production if products aren’t placed in a precise location as it enters the machine each and every time.

Once loaded, cartons are then transported on the same JLS TRAK through closing. Made of linear servo motors, independent carriers ride along the track to move cartons in place. Each carrier opens to accept the carton but also adjusts for carton size and the space needed to move each carton regardless of size to filling and closing. This helps enable near-instant changeover and flexibility at high speeds when combined with the Peregrine’s PCT system. 

Cartons are then closed by a robot using a unique end-of-arm tool where they are then sent downstream. Together, the JLS SCR system, JLS TRAK, vision-guided robotic technology and robotic closing achieve high-speed, flexible carton forming, loading and closing.
